Water Level Route
Location:   Along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers in New York state.      
Railroad:  Amtrak, Metro-North (ex Penn Central, ex New York Central)
Significance:   Important passenger and freight corridor.
Willamette Pass
Location:   Oregon Cascades, northwest of Cascade Summit      
Railroad:  UP (ex SP)   
Significance:  Twisting key north-south line.   
Williams Loop
Location:   In the Feather River Canyon, in Northwestern California. about halfway between Portola, CA and Keddie Wye.      
Railroad:  UP (ex WP)    
Significance:  Approximately a mile in circumference, the loop is used to maintain the relatively easy one percent grade of the line.
