Description: Bear Mountain Bridge is not a railroad bridge, it is a railfan Location.; but the Doodletown Trestle is the
focus of railfanning located at Bear Mountain State Park on the Hudson river in New York, about 45 miles north of
New York City. The Metro North Hudson Line lies on the east side of the river. It is a high speed line and also
carries Amtrak’s Empire Service between Albany and Penn Station as well as limited CXS CP freight operations. Busy
CSX tracks lie on the west side of the river and can be seen on the Doodletown Trestle. MN tracks carry about 75
trains a day, and CSX Tracks see about 25 trains a day. Both lines can be viewed from pedestrian walkways on either
side of the Bear Mountain Bridge.
Addendum: Another access point nearby (just to the north) is Popolopen Creek pedestrian bridge N 41.32289, W
73.98895 with a view of another CSX trestle.
